Curraha made the trip to Trim to take on last season's beaten semi-finalists Na Fianna, in their first game of this year's Senior Football Championship.
Na Fianna were quick out of the blocks, registering the first 2 scores of the game in the first 2 minutes, before Diarmuid Moriarty got Curraha on the board with a 4th minute free. However, this was quickly followed by a slick Na Fianna move which resulted in the first goal of the day after just 5 minutes. Curraha responded well with two further scores from Moriarty being added to by points from Jack O'Connor and James McEntee to tie the game up after 15 minutes.
Na Fianna dominated the second quarter, scoring 1-5 without reply. Curraha lost Andrew Battersby to injury this period, with Ciaran O'Hanrahan making a return to action in his place.
The scoreline at half time saw Na Fianna lead 2-7 to 0-5.
Conor Moriarty and Andrew Coyle were introduced for the 'Ha at half time, and Curraha started the half brilliantly. Two more points from Diarmuid Moriarty were added to with a goal and point from Conor Moriarty. However, the chances of a comeback were severely dented with the dismissal of James McEntee for two soft yellow cards. With the man advantage for the majority of the second half, Na Fianna were able to re-establish their lead and maintain control until the final whistle.
Further Curraha scores from Andrew Coyle, Neil Shortall, Jack O'Connor and Diarmuid Moriarty kept the scoreboard ticking over, but Na Fianna proved adept at exploiting the space granted to them by the man advantage and were comfortable winners in the end. It was a disappointing end to the game for Curraha, who had reduced the gap between the teams to 3 points early in the second half and really worked their way into the game. The controversial red card certainly changed the course of the game, but credit has to go to Na Fianna for their performance and the win.
Next up for the 'Ha is a crucial game against Ballinbrackey, likely to be in 2 weeks' time.
