FL Div 9: Curraha rue missed chances

Curraha clashed with Slane in the rescheduled Round 3 game on Friday night in the PMC Physiotherapy Division 9 fixture in a mild but breezy Joe McDermott Park, Curraha. 3 days on from Curraha's 3 point win over Duleek/Bellewstown in the same competition, Curraha were coming into this match with some great positives to build on.

Stephen Cregan got the game underway at 7:30pm, Curraha were playing against the wind for the first half. Slane got the first point of the match after 2 minutes with a fine point from play. Curraha hit back straight away with a very good mark converted by Gavin Coyle to open his account. Curraha took the lead when David Coyle scored a brilliant point from play after 4 minutes. Slane leveled the game 3 minutes later with another point from play. Curraha responded almost immediately though with Gavin Coyle scoring a brilliant point from play to give Curraha a 1 point lead. Slane hit a scoring spree with them scoring 2.05 without reply to give them a 10 point lead. Curraha responded with a well taken point from Gavin Coyle from play. Slane got the next 2 points of the game with 2 minutes remaining. Gavin Coyle again responded with another fine point from a free to leave the halftime score

 

Curraha introduced Brian Joyce for Séamus Hogan at halftime. Curraha were not going to give up however and gave a very good second half performance. Alan O ‘Connor got Curraha their first point of the second half with a well worked point from play coming in the 4th minute. Slane didn't get the next point of the match until the 14th minute of the second half with a point from play. Curraha were starting to dominate around the middle and Brian Joyce scored a brilliant point from about 55 metres out. The Curraha lads kept Slane very quiet in the second half and some great defending and attacking led to a very good point from play from Ben Heagney with 10 minutes remaining. Curraha will rue their missed chances in the second half with Brian Joyce making a terrific run with his shot just skimming the bottom of the post and wide. Matthew Brennan's point from a free from off the ground in the 22nd minute left 7 points between the sides. Curraha were caught off guard and Slane put the game to bed when they got their 3rd goal of the game. Curraha still didn't throw in the towel with Seán Ronan hitting a rocket of a shot which crashed into the crossbar. Slane got 2 late points both from play. Curraha got the last point of the match with a very well taken point from Conor Joyce from play to leave the final score:

A disappointing result for the Curraha lads but can be pleased with certain aspects of their play and putting in a very good performance against a strong Slane side. 

Next up for the Curraha lads is an away fixture on the 14th of May against Carnaross with an 8pm throw in. 

Curraha's first team are in action on Bank Holiday Monday evening the rescheduled fixture against Dunshaughlin with a 6pm throw-in.
